Last week we learned one of Jeremy's coworkers, Sean, from the American side of his company was coming to Besançon on Monday. We met up with him at around 6 and just walked around for a little bit as restaurants don't open until 7pm here. His wife asked him to bring home Kinder eggs. If you haven't read this previous post, a Kinder egg is a hollow milk chocolate "egg" with a little toy inside. They aren't sold in the US because the toy is considered a choking hazard. We brought him to the grocery store to buy some, and recommended a local wine to bring home.
After that, we brought him to a restaurant called La Grange (The Barn) right around the corner from our apartment. I had cheese fondue with potatoes, Jeremy had hot plate beef - a cooking surface is brought out and you cook the beef yourself, and Sean had duck. It was very good and very exciting for us since we don't go out to eat. I had researched a bunch of restaurants in the area before I settled on La Grange, and then I studied and translated the menu online in case he had any questions about it since he doesn't speak French. Maybe that was a little excessive, but I wanted to take care of our first American guest!
Sean headed home the next day and informed us his wine was confiscated at the airport! We hadn't stopped to think since he was only in town for a few days, he would only have a carry-on! But besides that, he assured us he had a very good time. I had so much fun, I can't wait until friends and family stay with us.
